The FAQ
Where are you located?
I am based in Oceanside, California. For Weddings, I am happy to partner with venues all over Southern California. Portrait sessions will generally be conducted within 60 miles of Oceanside however, travel outside of this radius is definitely an option and can be discussed on a case by case basis.
What is your photography style?
I call myself a "nature based photographer." For me, that means that I aim to incorporate nature into my photos as much as possible. Sometimes that means running through a field, sitting in a flower patch or hopping in the ocean! I shoot during golden hour whenever possible and love using sunlight in unique ways. My editing style tends to vary a little between bright and airy and a more moody vibe based on the location of the session, skin tone of my client and their personal preferences. However I always take a super organic, fun and intimate approach when shooting rather than a more "posed" style.
How long have you been doing this?
I have been shooting professionally for eleven years now. In 2018 I was voted the top 100 Senior Portrait photographers in the world by Senior Magazine! Sadly Covid times were very hard on my business so I took a little hiatus. I wound up moving to the Texas hill country for a few years but am back in SoCal now and ready to be inspired!
How many photos do we get?
The amount of photos delivered varies depending on the session type, but typically anywhere from 60-100 images make up the final gallery for a portrait session. For a wedding I typically deliver 75+ photos per hour. So 600-700 for and average 8 hour wedding.
How do we get our photos?
The images are delivered digitally through a beautifully curated Pixieset gallery and are all high resolution printable quality. Clients will receive printing rights to all of the photos sent in the final gallery. Physical prints can be purchased separately but are not automatically included in the session fee.
How can I use the photos?
Along with the session fee, you purchase the printing rights to the images that are delivered in the final gallery via Pixieset. You may print them wherever you would like. You may also share the images with family and friends. If sharing on social media please tag and/or mention @TheFairFlower_ and give artist credit. Please do not edit, alter, or filter the images in any way. This changes the look of the image which is misrepresentative of my artistry.
Do you retouch photos?
All the photos are carefully selected from the originals and then color corrected. I use an editing software called Lightroom to adjust things like warmth, tone, clarity etc. I do not use Photoshop. Although I do remove small blemishes like pimples, I do not do any major retouching like skin smoothing or body contouring.
Whats your turn around time?
I typically deliver a few "sneak peeks" to me clients within the first 3 days after the session. After that, I aim to deliver my final galleries within 7 days for a standard portrait session and within 1 month for a wedding.
Can I have my RAW or original images?
No. If you hire me as your photographer, you trust me to cull and edit your images based on my artistic eye and years of experience.
Can you help us with planning?
I would love to! After your session has been booked and deposit secured, we will promptly set up a time to do a virtual consultation to discuss your vision for your ideal portrait experience. During the consultation, we will discuss things like venue options, styling and lighting. For my bridal clients I love to be involved early on so we can plan the day together around the best lighting opportunities.
How do we book you?
Please reach out to me through the "contact me" tab and I will reply to your inquiry as soon as possible.
What should we wear?
Although I am a sucker for hats and anything Boho, I always want my clients to be who they are. For you maybe that's more tomboy-is or urban! We can do that too! I just want you to look back on these photos 20 years from now and smile. However for portrait sessions, I would advise to stay away from anything too loud (color wise) or busy (print wise)... you really want your face and the scenery to be the stars! Avoid bright colors like orange or red and bold patterns like checkers or big stripes. Typically, for a grad session there is one "dressy" look (like a white dress for example) and one casual look, like a pretty top and jeans or a romper. You can always add in more visual interest through accessories!
